Job Description/Requirements

The Institute of Certified Secretaries (ICS) is a Professional Membership Association established by an

Act of Parliament, the Certified Public Secretaries of Kenya, Cap. 534 of the Laws of Kenya. The core

mandate of the Institute is to promote the practice of good governance in both the private and public

sectors.

ICS has over the years been involved in various initiatives including research, publication, capacity

building and advisory services in the area of governance. It is against this background that ICS is

seeking to enhance its internal capacity by recruiting Research and Business Development Officer:

Job Purpose:

The Research and Business Development Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing

Institute’s research and business development programs and strategies.

Key Result Areas

1. Development of research proposals, concept notes and implementation of Research Projects.

2. Develop policy briefs on governance, leadership and related areas.

3. Write papers, prepare presentations, reports and research summaries for internal and external

audiences on governance.

4. Provide support to facilitate strategy formulation, implementation, monitoring, evaluation,

review, communication and alignment.

5. Engage key stakeholders in government, corporate sectors and other institutions on research

collaborations and potential for business opportunities.

6. Prepare and submit BIDS and expression of Interest to the Institution on governance.

7. Contribute as required to work on market research, re-modelling existing services, service

model development and on implementing successful bids.

8. Pursue opportunities and networks that may lead to expansion and new business.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

Educational/Professional Qualification

Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, e.g., Economics, Statistics, Public Policy and Commerce from a

recognized university.

Professional qualifications: Master’s in a relevant field will be an added advantage.

Experience

Minimum 3 years work experience with a successful track record of conducting and managing research

and or business development.

Others

Proficiency with MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, advanced Excel), Statistical Software Packages (SPSS

and STATA) and Data Collection tools.

Competencies

Demonstrate skills in literature review, proposal writing, stakeholder / key expert interviews, data

collection methods and report writing.

1. Demonstrate outstanding administrative capability in the organization of the research services

Strong conceptual and analytical skills.

2. Strong business acumen and thorough understanding of the different sales approaches.

3. Ability to create visually appealing and engaging bid presentations.

4. Aptitude in building relationships with professionals at all organizational levels

5. Exceptionally persuasive with ability to present and convey complex ideas clearly.

Terms of Service

The successful candidate will be appointed on permanent and pensionable terms, in line with the

Institute’s Human Resource Policy. A competitive remuneration package will be offered in line with the
